Stroke nomenclature

Stroke nomenclature allows us to describe in a simple manner any rhythmic pattern the considers strokes y silences only.

We write the strokes of a pattern counting the beats of silence that come afterwards and we call the resulting numeric series a stroke chain.

Example

Let's imagine a rhythmic pattern as the following one:

If we omit the musical figures, we could express this as a pattern of strokes and silences like this:

1 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 1

Where 1 signals a stroke and 0 signals silence.
